Glasgow, Governance, Grip and Grift

What Glasgow has always governed Association football in Scotland, beginning with Queen's Park and from 1873 the Scottish Football Association. It might have been responsible for its introduction although, before the soon-to-be Hampden club had accepted London FA rules, games to them, apart from the number of players per side, had been played in the border country by the Solway by Kinmount and who know to what regulations 11-a-side games were being played in Stranraer and by Newton Stewart even earlier. But the claim that Queen's Park or even Glasgow also invented the distinctive, Scottish game, the Scottish passing-game have little or no validity. It and it might have contributed a little but in the first fifteen years after the originally London had arrived neither it not it had anything like on-field, i.e. playing dominance. The stats show it. Nor is it probable that much or any of the on-field, i.e. positional or tactical innovation was from the banks of the Clyde. Those of the Dunbartonshire Leven are a far more likely source.

So what are these stats? Until 1891 there was no League champion, just the Cup and the Cup-winner.

So why the pretence, one that has been continued right to these digital times with the Football Square Mile web-site. It is either delusion or greed, or perhaps a little cover-up by the powers-that-be. In fact it is probably a little of all three. So let's start at the end and work backwards. Scotland's two greatest victories over England have been achieved in its two Golden eras, when winning points ratios, had they existed, of over 70% were when our country was captained by a black man, who was relieved of the possibility of being a Scottish international by the authorities of the time, and SFA President was from the Boonies of Perth. The next best ratio was achieved by a manager, who was a, indeed an-other, Renton-man.
